When I got home from work yesterday my husband and son were taking their afternoon naps. They had spent the day together and had many wonderful adventures - guy time. I went in Sage’s room to check on him and noticed some new items on his headboard.
There was a fish bowl, blue rocks, an imitation sea anemone, fish food, water conditioner, and in a small container next to the fish bowl a blue beta fish. The story I got when the boys awoke was that Sage had sweet talked daddy into getting him a fish! Sage had picked everything out and was so excited to put his fish in the fish bowl.
We cleaned everything, put the rocks and imitation sea anemone in the bowl, added water and then the fish. Sage was grinning from ear to ear like a Cheshire cat. He was so filled with joy to watch is new pet. His first new pet (we had our dog before Sage was born).
Sage went into a great discussion on why he picked the rocks and decorations that he did.
The sea anemone was chosen so the fish would have a “comfy snuggly place to sleep”.
The blue rocks matched the blue fish and “that is important”.
The fish food, Sage claimed, was like ice cream for the fish so the fish would for sure want to eat it all and be “healthy and strong”.
I asked Sage what the fish’s name was “mom fish don’t need names they’re fish”
Sage has been doing great with feeding it (his chore) last night and again this morning he sprung out of bed so he could go feed “the fish”. This should be an interesting adventure. I’m praying the fish doesn’t die anytime soon…not sure how to handle that yet (any suggestions?)

Sage looks so grown up since I have seen him last. Is the blue shirt to match that blue fish that matches the blue rocks? I had a co-worker once that had his beta for a long time, we are talking years so I’ll pray for that. If that doesn’t happen Sage’s siblings will get to meet Sage’s fish.
I’m not sure if he picked the fish and rocks to match the shirt or if it was just a coincidence
Ooh… make sure he doesn’t over-feed it. No more than 1-2 flakes a day or every couple days… Grace was feeding her Beta almost daily, and it died – I think from over-feeding… either that, or toxins leaked from her Littlest Pet Shop fish she put in to keep him and Ariel company (her fish tank came with Ariel). Either way…
Thanks – the sales person told us to feed the fish 2x a day
